Budo Academy is a visitor friendly BJJ Dojo where we have countless brown, purple and blue belters visiting and training with us. Our affiliation to BJJ Globe trotters means Budo Academy is a place to train for BJJ practitioners coming to Penang.
Our students have gone on to win notable results in local and international championships.
Ooi Aik Tong – Malaysian Invasion Mix Martial Arts Season 1 Welterweight Champion, Abu Dhabi Pro Trials Weight Division – Bronze,
Queenie Chew – Abu Dhabi Pro Trials Weight Division – Gold, Abu Dhabi Pro Trials Absolute – Silver, Penang BJJ Championship 2013 Nogi Champion
Like any martial art, BJJ emphasizes discipline. One also has to be fit and conditioned to enjoy BJJ. These 3 aspects would be drilled into trainees at Budo Academy from day one. A typical Jiu Jitsu class can burn up to 800 calories. We teach in both group and 1-2-1 settings and our aim is to keep you on track to looking and feeling your best by giving you an effective workout and the motivation you need. It is also great fun.
Training at Budo Academy will also give you a firm grasp on your “stand up” game as many high level judokas do cross train with fellow BJJ trainees. Budo Academy is the appointed Penang state Judo training centre and we have the Malaysian National Judo players training with us.
“I have learned many things fighting! JiuJitsu made me the man I am! The most important thing I believe is to be patient. Patient to endure an uncomfortable situation waiting for the right time to react.
Be patient and persistent to endure the long process that is learning, and be disciplined to get out of bed on those cold wet mornings and go training!”
~Pedro Fernandez(BJJ Black Belt, Pan-Pacific Champion, Founder:Tu Kaha BJJ)
“From fighting I have learned that no matter how hard you train, no matter how good you are, you never know everything.
So it is an eternal learning process where you must keep yourself humble and attentive to learn from anyone, even a white belt.”
~ Fernando Junior (BJJ Black Belt, Founder Au Capoeira NZ and MMA fighter)
